Trimester One 2018
This project evolved from a design stream with Rosie Scott which was researching intersectionality, gentrification & how these topics may interact with architecture.
It focuses on the journey from one side of the train tracks to the other and the connection with the train station too.

This project identified the opportunity to change the connection across the train tracks between Naenae and Avalon, a route that many students from Naenae take to get to school. The existing tunnel is not up to earthquake standards and therefore requires strengthening. Additionally, it is also not classified as 'accessible'.
This proposal consists of two stages;
1. Create safe and secure level-crossings at either end of the storage buildings.
2. Renovate and strengthen the existing tunnel (whilst this work occurs, the level crossing can be used to access the train station).

The final design focuses on the existing underground by 'daylighting' the underground path. It connects the Naenae square more directly, is accessible for all and provides the Naenae students with a safer journey between home and school.
